| From his obituary:
Wilson Norman Lemley was born in Clarksville, Ark. on May 27, 1924. Wilson, also known by close friends as just "Lem," was a part of the "greatest generation" and was known as a patriot, loving father and proud grandfather. He moved very early in his life from the Arkansas Ozarks to the plains of Lubbock, Texas, with his father working during the depression as a blacksmith, carpenter and part-time farmer. In 1940, Wilson joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCCs), which was a popular public works program for young men during the depression. Like many young men of his generation, Wilson answered the call in World War II by joining the Army Air Corps and was stationed with the Eighth Air Force (100th Bomb Group) in England until 1945. After the war, Wilson met Irene Brantner in Lubbock, Texas and they were married in her parents home in Jayton (Kent) Texas on July 4, 1946. Wilson enrolled in refrigeration school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and afterward open a refrigeration service shop in Sweetwater, Texas, where their two children were born. The family later moved to Lubbock where he worked as a commercial refrigeration technician, servicing all over West Texas and Eastern New Mexico. They later moved to Houston, Texas where he worked with Hussman Refirigeration until his retirement in 1988. Wilson and Irene celebrated 60 years of marriage before her passing in 2007. |
