#444 Nora Lloyd

NORA BRANTNER

Graveside services for Mrs. Nora Brantner, age 96, were held Tuesday, June 14, 1988 at 3:00p.m. at the Petteway Cemetery. Bro. Frank Downs of the Bremond Church of Christ was the officiating minister.

Serving as pallbearers were Freddie Zach, Herman White, George White, Terry Stellbauer, Neil Oldham and Bubba Fowler.

Mrs. Brantner died at her home in Bremond on June 12th. She was born in Robertson County on March 4, 1892, the daughter of Edward and Emma Webster Lloyd. She owned and operated the old Bremond Hotel until 1926 when it was destroyed by fire.

Mrs. Brantner lived the last 52 years with her daughter, Syble Mitchell. She was a member of the Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Syble Mitchell of Bremond; two grandchildren, Jerry Mitchell of Bremond and Joyce Kirby of Houston; two sisters, Mrs. Annie Garner of Jacksboro and Mrs. Charlie Atomanczyk of Mart; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Peiskee Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

EUNICE WHITE

Funeral services for Eunice Bodine White, age 76, were held Wednesday, Jan. 25, 1989 at 1:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church in Bremond. The pastor, Rev. Stan Ortner was the officiating minister.

Burial was in Post Oak Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Herman White, Leonard White, Ray White, W. B. Jackson, Nester Leamon and Roland Porter.

Mrs. White died Monday in a Franklin Nursing Home. She was born in Franklin on Oct. 13, 1912, the daughter of Lawson and Katie Ford Leamon. She was a graduate of Franklin High School, attended college in San Marcus and earned a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville.

On April 5, 1937 she and Ernest Dean White were married in Kosse. Mrs. White was a homemaker and a teacher. She taught for many years in the Bremond Public Schools and retired several years ago.

Mrs. White was a member of the Baptist Church. She was a Sunday school teacher for 34 years.

Her husband, Dean White, preceded her in death a few years ago.

Survivors include a son, and daughter-in-law, Robert Leamon White and Gayle White of Franklin; and two grandchildren, Russell Dean White and Amy Elizabeth White.

Pieskee Funeral Home of Bremond was in charge of arrangements.

#414 Evelyn Venita Long

Evelyn Venita Long Oldham

Evelyn Venita Long Oldham, 90, peacefully entered into eternal rest with her Lord and Savior February 1, 2008. She was born October 19, 1917, to Rosa Lee Harrison Long and James Albert Long in Bremond, Texas.

Evelyn married Deckard Neil Oldham May 29, 1939, moved to Houston where they raised their family. She was a loving, kind wife, mother and woman of faith, never meeting a stranger.

Teaching Sunday School at First Baptist Spring Branch allowed her the opportunity to tell children about the love of God. As a wonderful cook, she found her niche by joining Spring Branch ISD Food Service and became manager of Housman elementary Cafeteria where once again her kindness and love overflowed to the children.

Preceded in death by Neil, her husband of 52 years, parents, brothers Roland Long and Deckard Long; sisters Loraine Saylors, Flora Hill, Ruth Little, Zelda Moreland and grandson Ryan Oldham.

Survived by son Ronnie Oldham (Sallye) and daughter Betty Bass (Howard); grandchildren Jo Ann Sheppard (Tony), Randy Bass (Sheryl), Amanda Schroeder (Donald), Deeanna Marek (Chris) and David Knape (Laurie); great-grandchildren Austin Sheppard, Andrew Sheppard, J. C. Davis II, Raelyn Davis, Allye Schroeder, Avery Schroeder, Carson Marek and Elliot Marek.

The family wishes to thank and express deepest appreciation to Vali and Chris McNeal and Debbie Kessler for their love and care the past seven years who became Evelyn's second family. Special thanks to Renee, Vickie, Gloria, Dr. A. T. Salek and Dr. Shiraz Dhinani for all their loving care.

Visitation Tuesday, February 5, 2008, 12:00 p.m. with a celebration of her life at 1:00 p.m. Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Wilson Norman Lemley

Norman Wilson Lemley, 85 was born in Clarksville, Ark. on May 27, 1924 and died peacefully on November 14, 2009. Wilson, also known by close friends as just “Lem” was a part of the greatest generation and was known as a patriot, loving father and proud grandfather. Wilson moved very early in his life from the Arkansas Ozarks to the plains of Lubbock with his father working during the depression as a blacksmith, carpenter and part time farmer. In 1940, Wilson joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCCs) which was a popular public works program for young men during the depression. Like many young men of his generation, Wilson answered the call in World War II by joining the Army Air Corps and was stationed with the Eighth Air Force (100th Bomb Group) in England until 1945. After the war, Wilson married Irene Brantner on July 4, 1946. Irene and Wilson celebrated 60 years before Irene’s passing in 2007. After their marriage, Wilson enrolled in refrigeration school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and worked as a commercial refrigeration technician in West Texas, and then in the Houston area until his retirement with Hussmann Refrigeration in 1988.

In 1964, Wilson became a new Christian and has been a faithful member of the Memorial church of Christ since 1969. Wilson was known as a dedicated worker who greatly enjoyed being friendly and helpful to those around him. Although Wilson struggled with many physical ailments, Wilson was always active in meeting new friends, and never dwelled on his own physical concerns. During retirement years, Wilson enjoyed a close relationship with many people and friends that included his morning social group at the Memorial City Mall, members of his church family, and friends at his Memorial Terrace home.

Wilson is survived by a son and his wife, Gary & Mary of Katy, daughter Leta Lemley of Houston, grandson Nathan Wilson and his wife Jennette of Houston, and granddaughter Allison of Houston. Wilson was predeceased by his wife, Irene, his parents Arch & Julia Lemley, and his three sisters Erla Lee, Lois Vieregge, and Ada Mae Lemley.

A memorial service celebrating Wilson’s life will be held at the Waltrip Chapel at 10 am on Wednesday, November, 18, 2009 with graveside services at Resthaven in Lubbock, Texas on November 20, 2009. The family wishes to sincerely thank the Memorial Hermann Hospice team and all of Wilson’s close friends for the support they have given him during these last few days. ROANOKE - Mary E. Carpenter, 86, a homemaker and retired bookkeeper, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at a nursing center in Justin.

Funeral: 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Roanoke Church of Christ. Burial: Medlin Cemetery, Roanoke. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at J.E. Foust & Son Funeral Home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Carpenter, her parents, and two brothers. Mrs. Carpenter was a lifelong resident of the Roanoke area and the Church of Christ of Roanoke. For many years she was associated with Medlin Cemetery.

Survivors: Three nieces, one nephew and many other family members and friends.

Hazel (Dolly) Etta Lee Cooper

Happy 100th Birthday

Hazel Cooper, formerly of Houston, is celebrating her 100th birthday. She was born July 23, 1911 to Albert and Lena Lee in Robertson County. Hazel met the love of her life, Ansel (Roy) Leroy Cooper and was married February 22, 1931. They celebrated 73 years together before Roy's death in 2003. They have 1 son, 2 grandchildren, and 2 great grandsons.

Hazel worked for S.H. Kress and Co. and during World War II she was employed by Todd Shipyards. She was a key punch operator for Texaco retiring in 1970. Hazel loves the Lord and spent many years as a Sunday School teacher at Riverview Baptist Church in Houston. She and Roy spent many active years serving the Lord together. She has been an avid cook and gardener.
