Alfred J. was born in Wayne County, MS but by 1820 the family had moved to Simpson County.
1850 Census, MS, Simpson 30 August: Alfred Brown 32 MS, Sara A 31, 4 children.
1860 Census, MS Simpson Westville, 25 August: Alfred J 42 MS, wife Martha J 21, 5 children.

Alfred is thought to have married Martha about 1856-57, thus the mother of George W., born about 1858, and Calvin born 1861. Martha died sometime between 1861-1870. Alfred is in Texas in 1870 with three of his children; Martha, George, and Calvin, the older siblings having remained in Mississippi.

Leon County is adjacent to Robertson County where family lore thinks Alfred died and was buried. In 1870 there was a Bowling community with a post office and cemetery just SE of Maruqez and a few miles east of Robertson County. Alfred reported no real estate in that year.

Alfred reportedly died in 1873, but his grave has not been located.
Little is know about Elizabeth, who had left home before 1860.
Dorcas (Dorcus) was with parents in 1860 but indicated she married during the census year.

Alfred had a brother that connects with my paternal Smith line. This line in turn connects back to my Brantner/Brown line. I'm still working on the older lines, but I've shown the relationships as Brantner-Smith-Brown Connections.
