The 1850 Census, LA, Jackson has "Elijah Coplin" -- the 1860 Census, TX, Trinity, has "E. Coplin."
Elijah was bondsman for the marriage of Hiram Smith & Martha Copeland on 19 Feb 1843 in Rankin County, MS.
Both Elijah and Sarah Jane were deceased before the 1870 Census and their children were being raised by Sarah Jane's brother, Alexander "Alex" & Amanda Copeland McDaniel.
John C. married (1) Sarah Elizabeth Crumley (22 Mar 1841 - 1907, Malcon, GA) 13 May 1869 in Voca, Lavaca, TX & (2) Betty Birch c. 1907.
Both William Edward and Elijah William died as children.
Amanda Elizabeth never married, and died two years after her mother, probably while living with her uncle & aunt in Houston County.
Thomas Jefferson is the name some descendants know, while some researchers hold to Thomas Alexander. The 1870, 1880, and 1900 Censuses have Thomas A. Thomas had sons named Walter Alexander and Thomas Jefferson. I've historically used Thomas Jefferson.

Tom's burial place (in East Texas) is unknown; his last children were born in Walker County, Texas.
Martha Ann, Thomas, and Mary Jane married Smith siblings after they moved from Houston County to Robertson County. The Smith - Copeland connections go back through LA to MS.
