Notes: Jeremiah is mentioned as having been in Edgefield County, SC. This is not far from Wilkes, GA where he married Ann "Annie" Miller. All of their children were born in Georgia. The first were probably born in Wilkes, the last in Wilkinson County, GA, and some possibly between those two recorded places. We have a record from Mt. Nebo Baptist Church where Ann placed her membership by letter in 1821, but was deceased in 1822. There were other Garretts there in 1811.

Ann supposedly died in connection with the birth of her last child, Robert Milligan. Jeremiah supposedly and understandably married Mary King within the month. They moved a considerable distance from Wilkinson to Pike County, Alabama, and settled on the Pea River, Pike's eastern boundary, a county away from Georgia.

Jeremiah bought about 40 acres in Pike on August 21 1837. He was killed by Indians about 1838 near the Pea River and his home.

I was given excerpts about Jeremiah Garrett from "Heritage of Pike Co., AL" (2000), but I consider it typical "folk lore," with too many errors to be included here.
