| William had a son named William J. Occasional designations of Sr. and Jr. in various documents seem more to distinquish between father and son, rather that exact same-name appellations. I am uncertain that the elder William was actually named William J.
William J. had a son named William J. "Bill." This father and son are also sometimes referred to as Sr. and Jr. The 1850 Census has William age 65 (20 years older than Elizabeth). Some researchers use a birth year of 1787. Elizabeth Jenkin's birth date choices (based on Census "age") are 1803, 1805, or 1807 (20 younger than William). Re the burial of William and Elizabeth: Irene Blanton Smith wrote in "Two of the Smith Boys," self-published in 1983, "Family members and 'oldtimers' of Grenada, Miss. think that William and Elizabeth were buried in the Ross Cemetery. Very few marked graves were found there and none of William and Elizabeth, however, several years ago, Irene and Wallace Smith [the author] had stones put down there for both of them, using the census for basis as to their year of birth." She put 1787-1857 and 1807-1872 on William's and Elizabeth's respective stones. |
